The Southern Alberta Advantage

World Leaders in Agriculture

With superior growing conditions, irrigation infrastructure, and generations of expertise, Alberta leads the world in agrifood production.

Intersecting Major Trade Routes

The Highway 4 Corridor is at the crossroads of trade, with Highway 3 bisecting this region east to west. From Vancouver and Seattle in one direction or Chicago from another- it's an important transportation link for Canada as well!

Highway 36 links our country together by serving as a high load route that leads all way up north into Northern Alberta.

The Canamex Highway provides access north to Calgary and Edmonton, and south to California, Texas, and Mexico.

Industry Clustering

Recognized as a hub for food processing, many global food companies are already located in the region. The existing logistics and transportation supply chains have led to a growing number of niche innovators choosing to build their businesses here. The industry associations, research institutions and Economic Development Organizations are here to provide support.

Southern Alberta is a logistics cluster inside an agrifood cluster, inside a booming agricultural and energy rich-region, inside the most competitive province in Canada.

Economic Advantages

Alberta is an attractive and compelling place for investment from around the world thanks to our low taxes, a skilled workforce, and an affordable, high quality of life.

Southern Alberta, in addition to these benefits, can boast access to world-class research institutes, a growing manufacturing base and abundant renewable energy options.

Alberta has no provincial sales tax, no payroll tax, no health care premiums and lower land costs than other regions in Canada.

About the Investment and Trade Initiative

The Southern Alberta Investment and Trade Initiative (SAITI) is a regional collaboration between four economic development agencies in Southern Alberta that collectively represent the interests of 44 communities in the most intensely irrigated zone in Canada. These four agencies are the Alberta SouthWest Regional Alliance, Economic Development Lethbridge, Lethbridge County Economic Development, and the SouthGrow Regional Initiative. The collaboration has recently extended participation in our initiatives to nearby communities with investment ready industrial land, including Claresholm, Vulcan County, the MD of Taber, the Town of Taber, and the City of Lethbridge. As a collaborative entity, SAITI has been in existence since 2014 and has made large strides in promoting investment in our region.

Our mission is:

“Building new markets, attracting new capital and value-added opportunities for Southern Alberta.”

Our Vision is:

“Southern Alberta becomes a sought-after market for foreign direct investments in agri-food, food processing, technology and innovation, tourism and renewable energy. These investments support businesses to be resilient amid changing international trade-agreements.”
